Our Trail Route & Notes
The main loop trail is very easy to follow. There are two paths up from the parking lot. There’s a fork – one path allows dogs, the other doesn’t. We took the path on the right that allows dogs. That’s the way to the main loop. Then at the next fork, next to the informational sign, we started the loop in counter-clockwise direction.
There seem to be two beaches you can access via the no-dog-allowed trails. Because this loop is near the water, it’s very windy and I regretted not bringing a hat. It’s a very simple hike with nice views of Tomales Bay.
Millerton Point is considered an accessible trail.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Millerton Point was a railway stop, where visitors could cross the bay via ferry to the resort in Inverness. Oyster farmers also set up shop in the area, and you can drive a little further north on highway 1 to buy oysters.
